Meet Ethan

Before joining TCES East London School

Ethan had low attendance.

He was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

He was very unsettled and refused to go to school due to Emotional Based School Avoidance (EBSA).

Ethan used to feel misunderstood and found it hard to express his emotions.

He would become quickly frustrated, especially when he didn’t understand his work or couldn’t process how he felt.

When dysregulated he would physically assault staff and peers.

Ethan struggled to engage in whole class learning and participate in independent learning tasks and small group activities with his peers.

Progression

Ethan’s attendance increased to 98%.

Through therapeutic support, Ethan began using the ‘Zones of Regulation’ and daily check-ins to identify and talk about his emotions.

He learned to take movement breaks to help calm down and reflect when overwhelmed.

Ethan is now more confident in asking for help, even in front of his peers.

He is more willing to try new tasks and take part in class discussions.

Ethan has developed stronger relationships with staff and trusts them to support him when needed.

He attended weekly small group therapy sessions for 30 minutes, which helped him develop social skills with peers.

Ethan achieved a pass in Entry Level Maths and English.

He is currently working on Functional Skills Level 1 in both English and Maths.

He enrolled to a SEND College and is studying Level 1 Art and Design.

“I am incredibly proud of Ethan for his growth in controlling his emotions and behaviour. He has shown remarkable resilience and self-awareness, consistently making better choices and creating a more positive environment for himself and those around him. This progress reflects his hard work and determination to succeed.” – Sasha, SENCO
