Meet Keanu

Before joining TCES Nurture Primary

Keanu’s attendance was 50%.

Keanu had a diagnosis of ASC, and associated difficulties with social interaction, communication, and language needs.

He found it hard to engage in shared play or conversation, preferring to follow his own interests and direct interactions.

Keanu liked to do things his own way, especially during play and conversations. He found it hard to take turns when talking and often focused on one topic for a long time.

He was a compulsive eater and would put non-food items in his mouth, posing a risk to his safety.

When dysregulated Keanu became frustrated and would verbally abuse those around him.

He also found it difficult to manage his emotions, which could lead to outbursts when he felt upset or overwhelmed.

Keanu had 2 exclusions.

He was academically delayed by between one and two years, limiting his access to learning and affecting his confidence in the classroom.

Through therapeutic interventions, Keanu has improved his emotional regulation and is beginning to recognise and communicate his feelings with trusted adults.

Keanu now engages confidently in group activities, offers help to classmates, and shows genuine care for others.

His social skills have improved, he now shows greater patience in conversations with others is and more considerate in how he interacts with others during play.

He recently led an ‘all about me’ assembly in front of the whole school and explained his diagnosis to his peers and how it impacts his day-to-day life. Showing his growth and confidence in communicating with others.

Keanu wants to be a police man when he grows up.

“Keanu is a delightful and caring young man. His growth, both academically and personally, has been remarkable. It’s been a privilege to watch him develop into a confident, thoughtful young person who is eager to learn and connect with those around him.” Jackie, Keanu’s Teacher
