Meet Kendal

Before joining TCES East London School

Kendal is a Child Looked After (CLA)

She was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Attachment Difficulties

Kendal had low attendance.

She was at serious risk of permanent exclusion due to the frequency of behaviour incidents.

She displayed regular verbal and physical aggression towards both staff and peers. One serious incident required police involvement.

Kendal found it extremely difficult to follow instructions or accept authority from teaching staff, often leading to conflict and disengagement.

Transitions and changes including the arrival and departure of other children in her care home and school, led to anxiety and upset.

She had an emotional toll of changes including loss of additional new children at the care home and school, new people and new environments heightened her anxiety.

Kendal found it hard to form and maintain friendships, often feeling isolated or misunderstood by peers.

Progression

Kendal’s attendance increased to 84.17%

Through therapeutic interventions, her emotional regulation has improved. She uses the Zones of Regulation and the “cozy corner” to calm down when upset.

Kendal is better at managing her behaviour, with fewer incidents of verbal and physical aggression.

She formed strong, trusting relationships with key staff members.

Through the SALON Girls’ Therapeutic Social Group, she has developed her social skills and peer relationships.

Kendal is more engaged in lessons, especially when calm and regulated.

She has made progress in English, particularly in group discussions and reading

Kendal has started music sessions and is working towards achieving her Bronze Arts Award.

“Kendal has shown remarkable progress since joining TCES. Her ability to engage in group discussions and express her thoughts creatively has truly blossomed. Watching her build positive relationships and develop resilience has been incredibly rewarding. We are so proud of how far she has come and the bright future ahead of her.” – Sasha, SENCO
