Meet Rafael

Before Joining TCES Nurture Primary School

  • Rafael had diagnoses of Autism, ADS, ADHD and language development disorder.
  • Large class sizes led to him feeling overwhelmed and loud noises and busyness made him anxious and dysregulated.
  • Rafael struggled with social etiquette and boundaries, this affected his relationship with his peers.
  • He found it difficult to build and maintain friendships.
  • His understanding was very literal, he would not understand double meanings and his expressive language was delayed.
  • Rafael had daily emotional meltdowns at home and school which involved high levels of physical aggression.

November 2021 – Started at TCES Nurture Primary

  • Rafael is now more confident in busy environments and is less anxious during transitions and group activities.
  • He can now recognise when he feels overwhelmed and is able to communicate his emotions to teachers through the zones of regulation.
  • His focus has improved and he can now stay on task for longer with adult support and visual reminders.
  • Rafael engages well in lessons and has made great progress in reading and writing.
  • Rafael has learned how to build positive relationships, understand personal boundaries, and develop mutual trust and respect with both peers and staff.
