Students at TCES Nurture Primary School recently took part in a Prevent workshop delivered by the Newham Prevent Team and local Metropolitan Police officers.
Year 6 and Year 7 students attended the session where they were encouraged to share their views, challenge stereotypes and think more carefully about extremism, misinformation and the influence of social media.
Local police officers visited the school following this initial workshop and delivered sessions on crime, consequences and making safer choices adapted for suitability for children of their age. Their visit created a bit of excitement which was positively received as students engaged well with many asking lots of questions and a strong understanding of the topics covered.
The visit also gave students the chance to learn more about the role of the police in the community. They were particularly interested in the equipment officers carry and how it is used.
One of the most positive parts of the workshops was seeing the curiosity and maturity shown by our students. The sessions sparked meaningful conversations and encouraged them to think about the choices they make and how those choices can affect themselves and others.
We are grateful to both the Newham Prevent Team and our local police officers for delivering such valuable sessions.
