Stronger Together: Team Building Week at Nurture Primary School

At TCES Nurture Primary School, we believe that learning happens when students feel understood, supported, and part of a team. With new classes forming and Year 7 entering their final year with us, we dedicated a special week to strengthening friendships, building teamwork, and creating lasting memories together.

The week kicked off with the delicious challenge of making our own pizzas. The room quickly filled with laughter, teamwork, and the smell of freshly baked dough as students helped one another prepare toppings and assemble their creations. Once the pizzas were ready, everyone settled in to enjoy the food they had made together while watching a movie, the perfect start to a week focused on collaboration and fun.

Next came a trip to the park with Briony, the West Ham leadership coach. Through a series of energetic team challenges, students learned how important it is to listen to each other, follow instructions, and support one another. They discovered that every member of the group brings something valuable to the team, and by using each other’s strengths they were able to succeed.

Later in the week, students captured their memories by taking group photos and creating a collage. After printing and arranging the pictures, each student took their collage home, a special keepsake celebrating their friendships and the time they have shared together.

One of the most exciting trips of the week was a visit to Oxygen. In the past, this trip has sometimes been challenging because the free-play environment requires students to manage their independence and social interactions. This time, however, the students rose to the occasion. They made a real effort to play together, include everyone, and keep themselves regulated. Watching the students support one another and enjoy the experience responsibly made the staff incredibly proud.

To conclude the week, Year 7 headed out for a well-deserved trip to Five Guys. Over burgers and fries, students relaxed, laughed, and reflected on everything they had experienced during the week. They spoke openly about their favourite moments and shared their feelings about moving on from Nurture Primary School. It was an encouraging conversation as the students reminded each other that although change can feel big, they will continue their academic journeys together.

The Year 7 staff could not be prouder of how far the students have come. Since joining Nurture Primary School, they have grown into polite, confident, and caring young people. They have developed the ability to regulate their emotions, work as a team, and lift each other up when it matters most.

The week ended with a truly inspiring moment that perfectly captured the spirit of teamwork shown throughout the week. Throughout the year, students earn dojo points for acts of kindness, working hard in class, and making positive efforts around the school. At the end of the week, the students independently decided to combine their points to buy the ‘Platinum Prize’ from the dojo shop. Each student contributed 750 dojo points, showing incredible generosity and teamwork. Together they were able to purchase a game stick with controllers, which can now be connected to the classroom board during Golden Time so students can play games together, take turns, and share the experience. Seeing the students willingly spend their well-earned points for something the whole group could enjoy was incredibly admirable and showed just how much their bond had grown during Team Building Week!
