Students at TCES East London School took part in a dedicated wellbeing day during Children’s Mental Health Week, bringing together therapeutic experiences, creative activities and moments of calm designed to support emotional wellbeing and strengthen students’ sense of belonging.
Held on Friday 13 February, the wellbeing day recognised the importance of giving students space to pause and reconnect after a demanding half term of mock exams, revision and academic progress. At TCES, supporting emotional wellbeing is central to the school’s therapeutic education approach, ensuring every young person feels safe, valued and understood.
Hayley, Pastoral Care Coordinator at TCES East London School, said:
“Our students have worked incredibly hard this half term, and we are so proud of their progress. Days like this remind students that school isn’t only about academic achievement – it’s also about feeling supported, safe and valued.”
A highlight of the day was a visit from mobile farm providers Shae Bunnies, who brought a variety of animals for students to meet and interact with. Students were able to hold and spend time with Unique the bearded dragon, Coco Chanel the blue macaw parrot, tortoises Dior and Fendi, and rabbits Gucci and Gabbana.

For many students, the experience created moments of calm and connection.
One student shared:
“Holding the tortoise made me feel calm.”
Another student said:
“It was a really nice day, I loved holding the different animals.”
Reflecting on the impact of the visit, Hayley added:
“Students who often keep their emotions guarded began to smile and relax. It was incredibly special to see them feel comfortable and at ease.”
Alongside the animal visit, students also took part in slime making, art activities, games and films, giving them opportunities for creative expression, enjoyment and emotional regulation. Collaborative art activities explored themes of identity and belonging, reflecting the Children’s Mental Health Week theme led by Place2Be: This Is My Place.

Experiences like these play an important role in helping students build confidence, develop positive relationships and feel connected within the school community.
