Mario's success story
TCES East London Student's Passion for Table tennis
Mario is a 6th form student who started his journey with TCES at the age of 15 as a year 10 pupil. Mario struggled with anxiety and low self-esteem. His level of co-morbid needs made him anxious and withdrawn from his peers. The one thing Mario truly enjoys doing is playing table tennis, he has a keen interest, passionate and enthusiastic about his sport. Mario attends a table tennis club five days a week, and he is eager to continue to progress into the adult club later this year.
Mario took part in the Jack Petchey Awards last year, and was given the option to either represent his club or TCES East London School. Mario is proud of being a student of East London School and chose to represent the school in the tournament.
Mario is a Level 2 trained peer mentor at East London School. Mario would like to resume to be a relationship mentor and work with younger students as a table tennis coach. Mario would like other young people to have the opportunity to engage in table tennis and be a part of this amazing sport. He has found that being a part of the team has helped him to develop his social skills and resilience.
Mario really gave it his all in the tournament and played like a professional, demonstrating his skill and sportsmanship throughout. He came runner-up and was awarded a Jack Petchey Medal, which he is immensely proud of.
Mario would love to have a career in table tennis and has been entered for the sports leadership qualification through the LIFE programme at East London school. This qualification will help Mario develop his coaching skills and enable him to gain experience. By delivering table tennis sessions with his peers and younger students so that he can achieve his future ambitions of becoming a table tennis coach.
Mario also studies Sports Science at Newham College and is currently in his 2nd year of studies. TCES East London is proud of Mario and wants to celebrate his success.
