Dominque Lolive, Fashion Tutor at UAL: Central Saint Martins visited TCES East London to facilitate a t-shirt design workshop. It was a great opportunity for the pupils to get a better understanding of the fashion design process, explore creative ideas, and enhance their design skills to further progress into education and careers in the future. Pupils explored mark-making and stencil drawings for their preferred potential fashion line.
UAL: Central Saint Martins (CSM) has over a century of pioneering practice, having been founded in the nineteenth century. CSM combines the ability to imagine new futures with the means to realise them, addressing urgent global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity, and the creation of more equitable societies.
Dominique provided feedback regarding the workshop's work with students.
“My preconceived ideas about what might happen in the art room were turned upside down by what the students created. By giving them space to explore and the opportunity to get sticky and messy with paints was truly amazing/joyful. At the end of the workshop, I was really surprised by their work, sophisticated in a way that caught me off guard because, despite the challenge of teaching these learners, the outcome was at the same level as university students!
A big wow for me and I trust the learners too!’ I couldn’t have predicted a better outcome!”
At TCES, art is an important part of learning, allowing pupils to express themselves creatively and innovatively and gain valuable experiences from other education providers highlighting potential post-16 options.
