TCES East London retains its Good Ofsted rating
Ofsted recognises Outstanding personal development as TCES East London retains its Good rating
We’ve made a strong start to 2023 with the publication of the TCES East London Ofsted report, which sees the school retain its Good status following a full inspection 15-17 November 2022. This includes both our main site at TCES East London in Stratford Marsh and our Create Primary Nurture school in Barking.
Recognising that ‘pupils leave this school with the skills, qualities and confidence they need for future learning’, inspectors also rated the work we do on pupils’ personal development as Outstanding. This includes our award-winning LIFE (Leadership, Independence Skills, Future options and employability and Empowerment) programme, Group Process, individual therapy sessions and the overall culture of positive relationships in which staff refuse to give up on a single pupil.
The support for older pupils to gain qualifications, opportunities to get involved in influencing what happens in school via the student council and support at all levels to ensure that pupils learn to read fluently were among the many things that Ofsted identified TCES East London does well.
Inspectors also praised the expert knowledge and commitment of our TCES CEO and owner Thomas Keaney and our governing body, describing them as ‘highly experienced and committed to driving the school forward with determination and integrity.’
Executive Headteacher Adele Steadman says: ‘Most of our pupils arrive at TCES East London having experienced significant disruption to their education, including having been permanently excluded. Inspectors heard how we work intensively with each pupil to find out what they like and what they’re good at. We then create a network of support around each pupil to help them succeed.
‘Having spent two days visiting TCES East London at Stratford Marsh and our TCES Create Primary site in Barking, we were delighted that inspectors concluded:
‘The school’s culture is one where staff never give up. Staff build the trust of pupils and families. This school helps children to enjoy learning again. Over time, thanks to the excellent teamwork of staff, including teachers and therapists, pupils’ behaviour, attendance and learning improve significantly.
'I’d like to say a special thank you to all families and pupils who took the time to give thoughtful responses to Ofsted during the inspection period. Your support makes all the difference.'
