National online school student council progress
National Online School Student Council continues to move from strength to strength!
The pilot group, comprised of our more senior students, are breaking new ground and finding ways to work together in a collaborative group setting. Huge progress considering the starting points of many of our students found themselves; being out of a consistent education setting for an extended period, difficulty managing emotions, limited experience of positive teamwork, the feeling of being supported and listened to, before they joined National Online School. All our students have worked hard to move away from isolation and very limited education experiences towards an inclusive online school community rife with opportunity and engagement, and now at NOS are striving together for the wellbeing of all our students.
The council have been looking at the best ways to invest their budget with ideas ranging from stationery supplies, welcome packs, wellbeing gifts to online workshop providers. Members have each assumed a responsibility for a specific aspect of resources and experiences to invest in to support the education and wellbeing of their peers- researching suppliers, providers and spend per student.
Our council members haven't hesitated - taking on this live project to research and cost the best ways to benefit the student body, guiding our staff to invest our budget in the most effective and relevant ways. This is student voice and action at its best: young people taking a leading role in their education and wellbeing, exemplifying the NOS commitment to lifelong learning and employability for all.
In the coming months, the council will meet to discuss and reflect on the pilot programme and ask, amongst other things, how the council can be grown and how members can work ever more closely with all our NOS students to continue their first-rate work for our entire learning community.
